The White House Dark Web Marketplace says “We are retiring!”
The White House Dark Web marketplace will cease to exist as the website administrator has announced to shut down its operations and that they are retiring.
The admin of the White House market “mr white” explained that the platform would halt its operations as he had reached his goal in terms of profit. The announcement was posted on the dread forum.
“We have reached our goal and now, according to plan, it’s time for us to retire,” the admin posted on the Dread thread. The cryptographically signed message came with the operator’s GPG key.
What is White House Dark Web Marketplace?
It is a dark web underground marketplace that facilitates the trading of illegal goods. The site, accessible through the Tor browser, was launched in Feb 2019, just a few months before the Wall Street market’s exit. It eventually became one of the most thriving underground marketplaces on the Dark Web.
Its operators initially accepted payments only in Monero cryptocurrency, and it operated on i2p and Tor networks simultaneously. The market’s primary focus was on selling narcotics and offered other illegal goods such as weapons, malware, and payment card data.
The marketplace operated just like eBay or Amazon. By Sep 2020, it became the biggest marketplace on the Dark Web after the Empire market’s exit. In Feb 2021, it boasted half a million registered members.
The Final Goodbye
“Thanks, everybody for your business, trust, support, and of course for placing decent amounts of money in our pockets. We may come back sometime in the future with a different project or we may not. Meanwhile, be on the lookout for phishing or copycats, if it’s not signed by us it’s not us,” the message read as reported by DarkNetStats.
The admin clarified that the site had disabled the registration of new accounts, and new listings won’t be posted anymore.
“We will keep the market online for a limited time until open orders are finalized, disputes handled and coins withdrawn. We don’t know how long that will take but don’t expect to come back 6 months from now and find the market up,” the admin said.
